Emily is a licensed social worker with extensive experience working with survivors of trauma, as well as certified in EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) to support the healing process. Through Emily’s work experience since getting her MSW in 2016, she has been able to support many different kinds of clients as they traverse the inevitable stressors of adulthood, as well as clients that are looking to reprocess traumatic memories from the past. Some of the issues that Emily has supported clients through include, but are not limited to, college/school stress, life transitions, communication, relationships/intimacy, self-esteem/body image, PTSD symptoms, and healing from past traumatic experiences.
Clients who are looking for an empathetic, humorous and firm support in their lives can likely find this in a therapeutic relationship with Emily. In conjunction with her specialized clinical training to support healing from trauma through EMDR and mindfulness/body-based interventions, she loves to connect with clients through humor and the occasional “tough love” conversation to build a strong therapeutic foundation to support clients in engaging in meaningful, life changing work. A typical session with Emily would likely include laughter, lots of psychoeducation about the brain (knowledge is power!), and consistent treatment planning/updating to ensure that you, as the client, are an active participant in your treatment and feel that you are accomplishing your goals. Emily believes strongly that every client is the expert on themselves — she seeks to provide you with tools to help support your specific healing journey.
Emily has particular interests around issues related to social justice, continuing to support survivors of trauma (particularly sexual violence), and providing more specialized support to clients who are looking to increase their confidence and assertiveness in social and professional situations. Additionally, Emily is a fat positive therapist that enjoys sharing information about non-diet approaches to healing your relationships with food, body and exercise.
Emily describes herself as a funny, cat-loving, reality TV obsessed trauma-informed clinician that would be humbled by the opportunity to support you in whatever your life goals are in a safe, compassionate environment.
