My name is Madrone Phoenix. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with advanced training in Trauma Studies and certified in Restorative Justice Practices. I specialize in short term, goal-focused treatment utilizing a range of modalities such as CBT, DBT, Positive and Resilience Psychology, Somatic Psychotherapy, Therapeutic Yoga, Mindfulness/Meditation and Motivational Interviewing. In addition to my experience above, I also offer additional short term and adjunctive treatment in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, often integrating Internal Family Systems and Complementary and Alternative Medicine into treatment.
As a mixed race, queer-identified Buddhist, I have an intimate understanding of the complex culture, family systems and personal identity can influence one’s life and educational experience. My work with each client is viewed through intersectionality and strengths-based lens. I consider carefully the importance of culture and identity(ies) have on presenting symptoms. My practice is restorative in nature, social justice based and trauma-informed. I use brain-based principles while being grounded in cultural humility, emotional intelligence, passion, and dedication. My natural gifts in communication and kind presence helps others to feel at ease.
I am privileged to support individuals through self-exploration, identity challenge/change as well as managing daily stressors, particularly adjustment to new life circumstances, challenges with sleep, time management/ organization, feeling homesick, struggles with anxiety such as with test taking, performance and/or socially, struggles with depression including screening and referring out as needed for suicidal ideation, as well as substance use/abuse and overall self care.
Madrone is offering short term and adjunctive EMDR and/or trauma-informed yoga treatment to clients of ECMW! You don’t need to be a current client of Madrone’s, but if you are interested in utilizing EMDR and/or yoga therapy to help support your therapeutic process over the summer, she’s happy to support you. EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation to help decrease the level of distress experienced by current triggers. She provides both yoga Nidra and/or Kundalini yoga depending on client needs. Yoga Nidra is a deeply relaxing type of yoga which helps to tone and strengthen the parasympathetic nervous system, while Kundalini is an activating and engaging yoga which helps to bring energy and brightness to our outlook and experience. Typically, Yoga Nidra is useful to treat anxiety like symptoms and Kundalini is useful to treat more depressive-like symptoms.
