Michael Macedo , LICSW

Therapist Providence RI

He/Him/His

My name is Mike, and I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). I have several years of experience working in a variety of different settings, from PHP/IOP to schools, EOS, and outpatient practices. I have worked with individuals and groups of all ages with Autism profiles, Anxiety Disorders, and Mood Disorders, substance use, and Trauma Disorders. I also have experience working with adolescents and adults in the LGBTQ+ Community, as well as undergraduate/graduate students, especially student-athletes, who juggle many different responsibilities, and can experience a variety of stressors. As a former student-athlete myself, I understand both the gifts and challenges that can come with managing a busy schedule in this role.

I have experience utilizing a variety of different treatment modalities, including CBT, ACT, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Treatment, Motivational Interviewing, Reality Therapy, as well as Social-Emotional Learning.

I embrace a client-centered, and strengths-based locus of treatment that is solution-focused, and meets the client where they are at. I believe in always taking a Systems Theory and Reality Theory approach to treatment, as well as applying a heavy emphasis on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction to help individuals in their journey towards self-acceptance and self-actualization.

In addition to my work at ECMW, I’m also an Outpatient Clinician at Social Sparks, Inc. I’m also an Autism Advocate, guest speaker, and writer/blogger on various Online platforms and virtual podcasts.

In my spare-time, I’m an avid long-distance runner at a competitive level. I run in road races for a Boston-based track club, and also enjoy cycling and hiking. I always encourage regular exercise and outdoor time to anyone who I work with, in the hopes that everyone can experience the healing benefits of a calm mind and body, and being present in nature.

I earned a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from Rhode Island College in 2016. I also hold a B.A. In Psychology from Rhode Island College as well (2012).
